Jeep Grand Wagoneer Could Cost $140,000, Report Says

Luxury SUV will battle Range Rovers

In an interview with Auto Express, Jeep confirmed it was looking to revive the large Grand Wagoneer SUV. But when it goes on sale, it could cost a lot more than we expected.

Jeep boss Mike Manley said that a future Grand Wagoneer could compete with Range Rovers and even the Porsche Cayenne Turbo. He also says he doesn’t see a limit to the prices Jeep can issue going forward. “I’ll use US dollars, but pushing the car up to $130,000 USD to $140,000 USD may be possible, but we need to establish Grand Wagoneer in its own right first,” Manley said. “That’s why I wouldn’t say there’s a price ceiling.”

Manley was speaking with a U.K.-based publication, and it’s possible that Jeep has a different pricing strategy for the North American market. But his comments suggest that Jeep wants to eventually push prices beyond its most expensive model, currently the $65,000 USD-plus Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT. The Grand Wagoneer will likely share components with Fiat Chrysler‘s top-tier SUV, the Maserati Levante.

Expected to offer three rows of seating, the new Jeep Grand Wagoneer will use the same architecture as the next Grand Cherokee. So will the new Wagoneer, which will slot below the Grand Wagoneer. FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne has said in the past that the two new models will be built at the Warren Truck Assembly plant in Detroit.
