The range-topping sedan in the Audi lineup is about to become even more exclusive. Audi has introduced a high-performance S8 Plus model that comes with a price tag of 145,200 euros, which is roughly $157,800 in today’s U.S. dollars.
Through its 4.0-liter TFSI engine, the Audi S8 Plus delivers 605 metric hp, or 85 more ponies than the standard S8. Maximum torque comes in at 516 lb-ft, but in overboost mode, it can produce 553 lb-ft. The engine is paired with an eight-speed tiptronic transmission.
Audi estimates the sedan will hit 62 mph in a blistering 3.8 seconds, a time probably helped by the car’s relatively lightweight body that is made almost entirely of aluminum. It’s also likely a conservative estimate, considering the last S8 we tested did the deed in 3.5 seconds. Top speed has been electronically limited to 155.3 mph, but customers can choose to lift that cap to 189.5 mph with the Dynamic package.
Adding a bit of character to the stately sedan, the S8 Plus comes with gloss black accents on the grille, darkened taillights, and an available Floret Silver matte-effect paint job that is exclusive to this model. Buyers can opt for a carbon fiber rear spoiler, complementing the carbon-fiber flaps in the side air inlets and on the blade on the front apron. Inside, look for red contrast stitching, stainless steel pedals, black leather seats, and a black Alcantara headliner. In Germany, standard goodies includes unique 21-inch wheels, carbon-fiber reinforced ceramic brakes, Audi pre sense plus safety package, four-zone auto climate control, Bose surround sound, and MMI navigation plus with MMI touch.
The S8 Plus hits Audi’s home market in November, but there’s no word yet on whether the model will go on sale in the U.S.
