New engine could debut this year on the DB11.
Aston Martin has released a new video on its YouTube channel that teases a new 5.2-liter twin-turbo V-12 engine. The 33-second clip begins with the engine start button being pressed, which wakes up the boosted twelve-cylinder with a sonorous growl. Views of the engine bay follow as the camera hovers over different areas under the hood before the camera highlights the engine, which has a label saying “V12 5.2 Twin Turbo.” The engine is then revved some more to let you revel in the glorious sounds it makes.
While the video doesn’t reveal much else other than the fact that Aston Martin has a new engine arriving in its lineup, the teaser’s title, “Coming 2016 V-12 Twin Turbo,” suggests that the engine will make its debut on a new vehicle that will be introduced this year. This new engine could find its way into the DB11, the replacement for the aging DB9 sports car. Additional powertrain choices for the DB11 are said to be V-8s sourced from Mercedes-AMG. As Aston Martin is one of the last high-end luxury brands to retain a manual gearbox option, the DB11 could come with a stick shift option in addition to the ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic found in the Vanquish.
Expect Aston Martin to reveal the DB11 sometime this year, possibly at the 2016 Geneva auto show.
