The F-150's smaller cab shines in many ways
Buyers who want a 2019 Ford F-150 with back seats have two cab choices: the F-150 SuperCrew with a full-size rear passenger area, or the smaller F-150 SuperCab that has less rear legroom. The 2019 F-150 SuperCrew is the more popular and practical choice, but here are five reasons to consider the SuperCab.
Longer bed is standard
Standard bed lengths for SuperCab and SuperCrew are 6.5 feet and 5.5 feet, respectively. The 6.5-foot bed is optional on SuperCrew, but that requires stretching the wheelbase and overall length by almost a foot (156.8 and 243.7 inches). Need to haul even more stuff? Ford offers a gigantic 8-foot bed for the F-150 SuperCab (and the Regular cab), but not the SuperCrew.
The 2019 F-150 SuperCab makes the most out of its shortened rear passenger area with rear-hinged doors that swing open a full 180 degrees for easier access. Better yet, the SuperCab doesn’t have a B-pillar, which means there’s nothing in the way when loading awkward cargo like child seats. This is also an advantage the F-150 has over its competitors like the Ram 1500 Quad Cab and Chevrolet Silverado Double Cab, both of which have front-hinged doors.
Decent rear legroom
With 33.5 inches of rear legroom in the SuperCab (versus 43.6 inches for SuperCrew), adults of average height have just enough space to sit comfortably. Rear head, shoulder, and hip room are pretty much identical to SuperCrew. Rear seat bottoms fold up and away to maximize cargo space, as does the flat foot well.
Higher payload rating
When it comes to towing, the F-150 SuperCrew takes the crown with an SAE rating of 13,200 pounds (5,987 kg), versus 12,000 pounds (5,443 kg) for SuperCab (when powered by the twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 EcoBoost engine). That said, the SuperCab narrowly beats SuperCrew on payload—2980 pounds (1,352 kg), which is 90 pounds (40 kg) more than the SuperCrew.
Perhaps the most important advantage F-150 SuperCab has over SuperCrew is price. At a starting price of $33,835 USD, the base F-150 XL SuperCab is almost $2,500 USD cheaper than a comparable SuperCrew (both powered by the naturally aspirated 3.3-liter V-6). The SuperCab isn’t available with the fancy King Ranch, Platinum, or Limited trims offered on SuperCrew, but you can still opt for the well-equipped Lariat model that includes leather seats, a B&O sound system, larger infotainment screen, dual auto climate control, and push-button start.
