Redesigned model will be unveiled on June 2
Audi has released a new image teasing its redesigned midsize four-passenger coupe that will be revealed on June 2. This is the Audi A5 coupe’s first major redesign since it debuted for the 2008 model year. A new teaser website features a camouflaged car with a countdown clock.
While the teaser image shows the silhouette of the redesigned coupe, much of its shape is disguised behind black and white swirl camouflage. Few actual details can be made out including the lower bumper air intake, chiseled headlights, side mirrors, and door windows. The rear quarter windows are still hidden by the camo.
Although we’ve seen prototypes for the redesigned coupe, few details about the 2017 Audi A5 have been revealed. We do know that it will ride on Volkswagen Group’s newer MLB Evo architecture that also underpins the 2017 Audi A4 sedan. The platform consists of high-strength steel, aluminum, and composite bits to reduce overall vehicle weight. Weight savings are expected to be between 200 and 250 pounds relative to the outgoing car.
Like the current model, the next A5 is expected to be offered in coupe and convertible form. A new sportback version is also rumored for the North America. We only expect to see the new 2017 Audi A5 coupe variant early next month.
