Volvo‘s S80 sedan will have more grunt and more grip in the near future when it becomes available with a T6 turbo engine and all-wheel drive.
The 3.0-liter, turbocharged;inline six;produces 285 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, an increase of 50 horsepower and 59 lb-ft compared to the normally aspirated 3.2-liter inline six. Twin-scroll turbo technology is used to reduce lag and increase response, helping to make maximum torque available from 1,500 rpm through redline. The T6 engine is also said to offer low emissions and increased fuel efficiency.
Paired with the new engine will be Volvo’s electronically-controlled all-wheel drive setup, which distributes power between the front and rear wheels as required by driving conditions via the extremely quick Instant Traction feature.
While Volvo has not given a specific availability date for the T6-equipped, AWD S80, we predict that examples will begin arriving in showrooms sometime this summer.
