Volkswagen Golf GTE Sport Plug-In Hybrid Concept

Volkswagen says the Golf GTE plug-in hybrid concept “blurs the lines between road and motorsport vehicles.” Power for the concept comes from the World Rally Championship-winning Volkswagen Polo R WRC car’s 1.6-liter TSI I-4 engine and a pair of electric motors. The engine is rated at 295 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque and mated to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, while the front motor is rated at 113 hp and 243 lb-ft and the rear motor is rated 113 hp and 199 lb-ft. Total system torque output is rated 494 lb-ft. Volkswagen claims the concept can reach 62 mph in 4.3 seconds and has a top speed of 174 mph (280 km/h).

The concept’s styling hints at the future design direction of the Golf, while the body is “largely” made from carbon fiber. There is also a pair of gullwing doors. Much of the body features exposed carbon fiber including the door sills, door mirror caps, door window frames, and more. The wheel wells are fitted with a set of staggered 20-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the concept features carbon fiber and microfiber trim, racing bucket seats with five-point harnesses, and three vehicle information displays.

2016 Volkswagen Beetle Dune

The 2016 Volkswagen Beetle Dune is headed to the U.S. Available on coupe and convertible models, the new trim is said to be inspired by classic Baja bugs and features a more rugged look with unique front and rear fascias, and black fender flares housing 18-inch Canyon alloy wheels. The Beetle Dune sits 0.4 inches higher and has a 0.6-inch wider rear track than other models. Additionally, the exterior features black and silver accents and “Dune” graphics. An available Lighting Package will add HID headlights with LED Daytime Running Lights and LED license plate lighting. LED taillights are standard.

Orange stitching on the sport seats and steering wheel add contrast to the interior. The Beetle Dune also comes with the automaker’s MIB II Composition Color infotainment system with 6.3-inch touchscreen. A Technology Package is also available.

Exterior colors include Sandstorm Yellow, Pure White, and Deep Black Pearl. Cars with the Sandstorm Yellow paint feature body color interior accents, while other models feature black accents.

Power comes from Volkswagen’s 1.8-liter turbocharged I-4 mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The engine is rated 170 hp and 184 lb-ft.

The 2016 Volkswagen Beetle Dune coupe will go on sale in the first quarter of 2016, while the convertible will go on sale in the third quarter.

2016 Volkswagen Beetle Denim

The 2016 Volkswagen Beetle Denim has been confirmed for the North American territory. The limited-edition Beetle is said to pay homage to the 1970s Jean Bug. Limited to just 2,000 units, the 2016 Beetle Denim will be available in either Pure White or Stonewashed Blue exterior paint with colors limited to just 1,000 examples of each. The Dark Blue convertible top’s texture is said to resemble denim material.

Inside, the Beetle Denim features a unique light-blue-and-silver dashpad, while the seat pockets are inspired by jeans with small red Beetle tabs. The seats feature a light blue denim cloth material with white piping and dark blue leatherette accents. All Beetle Denim models will come with the automaker’s new MIB II Composition Color infotainment system with 5.0-inch touchscreen.
