Is this the next-gen Leaf?
The concept adopts Nissan’s new signature V-shaped grille as well as bold new lights. There’s a chance that the model previews the next-generation Leaf, since that vehicle is due for a full overhaul in the next couple years. However, the new model could be something entirely different like an autonomous or partially autonomous vehicle. Nissan hasn’t even given a name for the mystery concept, so it’s anyone’s guess what to expect.
If we are indeed looking at a future Nissan Leaf, we’ve heard to expect an improved driving range thanks to new battery technology. To tide customers over until the new model, Nissan updated the Leaf for 2016 to offer a small improvement of 107 miles (172 km) of range, up from 84 miles (135 km) on older models.
The Nissan concept will be shown alongside the Teatro for Dayz box car concept, which is expected to debut connectivity technologies targeted at Millennials. Also on the docket for the Tokyo motor show is Nissan’s Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo featuring a bold red paint color. We’ll learn more when the Tokyo motor show kicks into gear October 29.
