For next month’s Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show, Hyundai will bring out a newly styled version of its current Veloster Turbo featuring a design from Blood Type Racing Inc. Dubbed the BTR Edition Veloster, this show car will feature a rather dark look.
A “Carbon Black” exterior paint job with red racing stripes starts off the dark design, while a carbon fiber wide-body kit gives the Veloster more bulk. The overall appearance offers a more aggressive look and stance, while a front splitter, rear desk spoiler, and front-mounted aero canards provide not only cosmetic enhancements but help with downforce when at high speeds.
The stock 1.6-liter Gamma four-cylinder engine has been outfitted with new cylinder sleeves, a high-boost turbocharger from Garrett, and custom connecting rods and pistons to strengthen the engine and produce over 500 hp. Inside, the BTR Edition Veloster has been completely stripped down to offer a more race-inspired cockpit with a four-point roll cage, Sabelt bucket seats, harnesses, and steering wheel, as well as an updated audio system from Rockford Fosgate and Tanabe OLED Revel gauges.
In the past, other wild Velosters have taken the stage at SEMA with equally unusual looks. In 2011, Hyundai teamed up with ARK Performance, showcasing a rally-inspired Veloster with a gray and yellow color scheme. The following year, the automaker partnered with Cosworth to create the “Velocity” concept, complete with a striking red and white color theme. In 2013, Hyundai was back, this time partnering with EGR to create the Night Racer.
