Show Vehicles Preview Van Coming to U.S. Next Year
The Mercedes-Benz Metris, currently named “Vito” in other markets around the globe, will slot below the large Sprinter commercial van when it comes to the U.S. And if the four concept vans are any indication, we can expect the Metris to suit a variety of needs, with the capability of acting as anything from a fire truck to a party van.
The Party/DJ Van, designed by RENNtech, features psychedelic colors and a clamshell-style roof that acts as a DJ booth. The Garmin Mobile Golf Pro Shop is meant for both work and play, offering a high-tech golf simulator for individuals or professional players. The RADO Fire Chief Concept Truck, complete with appropriate lighting, aids in transporting firefighters, while the HQ Custom Design Luxury Van provides a new take on executive shuttle service.
According to Mercedes-Benz, the Metris will come in passenger and cargo versions, but not a Freightliner version. Also, don’t expect Mercedes’ V-Class minivan to make its way to the U.S. Pricing for the Mercedes-Benz Metris will be announced closer to launch.
Meanwhile, a number of changes arrive on the Sprinter for the 2015 model year, including standard Crosswind Assist that prevents wind from disturbing the vehicle. A 4×4 version will be offered on both cargo and passenger iterations. Drivers will be able to service their Sprinters every 20,000 miles, compared to every 15,000 miles for 2014 model year versions.
